Alcohol ban on trains

This is an interesting point.....

I'm sorry, is it just me, but is this one of the main reasons for taking a train? I guess I must be in the minority since I generally catch a train for the purpose of travelling from one place to another.
Reason 1 - I don't drive.
Reason 2 - Parking can be a nightmare in some towns.
Reason 3 - Road congestion and 'green issues'
Nope, s'not one of my main reasons then...

Of course I had noticed when getting on the train that every second person is holding a can of something!

Next time I'll say to the guard 'Make mine a Baileys and easy on the sharp pull-ups, I don't want to spill a drop'

Lived in London most of my life, never learnt to drive as it was quicker to get on a tube. Now in county still dont drive prefer the 17 min train journey, can do my Su Doku......

yeah for everyday use a car is poop, especially here in Newcastle.. no point, decent public transport... however if I want to just get up and go a car is ideal as 1 hours drive I can go and talk to cows and sheep up ontop of hills and reflect on the silly people driving 5 miles each day.........lol

anway i've got to go buy a car first as it's still mountain bike weather....(no ice)

hey,, it's T-Shirt weather all the time for us daft Geordies you know.. (well perhaps wooly hat and thermals for me (i am technically a lizard..lol);

I wrote that comment on the BBC website ... my full quote (the BBC only used an excerpt on the actual news story) basically said that I liked clubbing and being able to have a couple of drinks on the way often swung my decision to take the train rather than drive! But I have used the train on many other occasions (such as for visiting central London) without drinling.
